Rick D. Heitschmidt, 67, of rural Forgan, Oklahoma passed away on Pancake Day - Tuesday March 5, 2019 at his home. He was born on Pancake Day - February 26, 1952 to Donald and Betty (Swan) Heitschmidt at Liberal, Kansas. On May 18, 1974 he married Linda "Lindy" Bradley at Oklahoma City, Oklahoma; she survives. Rick was a graduate of Turpin High School; class of 1970. He then went on to obtain his Bachelor of Science Degree from Southwestern Oklahoma State University in Weatherford, Oklahoma; class of 1975. He lived in Liberal until he moved with his parents to Beaver County, Oklahoma where they farmed & ranched. After graduating college he moved back Beaver County where he worked along with his father until taking over the family farm and ranch in the late 1990's. Rick was very active and involved in many organizations including the Oklahoma Farm Bureau, Oklahoma Grain Sorghum Commission, FSA, and the Beaver County Excise Board. He was also active in the Rainbow Players and sang in the "Uncalled Four" Barbershop Quartet. He enjoyed Broadway musicals, OU football, golfing, fishing, supporting his sons while they were young in sports and was an assistant Boy Scout troop leader. He was a lifetime member of the First United Methodist Church of Liberal, where he sang in the choir and had served on the administration board. He never met a stranger and had the "gift of gab"! Rick is also survived by two sons, Adam Heitschmidt and wife Karyn of Liberal, KS, Zack Heitschmidt and wife Ashley of Blackwell, OK; mother Betty Heitschmidt of Liberal, KS; grandson Addison Heitschmidt and granddaughter Lilly Heitschmidt, both of Liberal; brother Joe Dean Heitschmidt and wife Linda of Oklahoma, City, OK; several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his father and brother Randy Heitschmidt. There will be no public viewing as cremation has taken place. Memorial Services will be 10:30am Wednesday, March 13, 2019, at the First United Methodist Church, with Pastor Keith Anglemyer and Chris Perkins officiating.
