Roy Nelson Gearhart, 94, of Turpin, OK passed away on Thursday November 25, 2021 at the Southwest Medical Center in Liberal, KS.
He was born on March 24, 1927 to John and Ruby (Anderson) Gearhart at Chanute, KS.
On September 10, 1948 he married Phyllis Schield at Erie, KS.
Nelson grew up around Chanute, KS. At the age of 15 he and a friend came to western Kansas to work wheat harvest. He enlisted in the Army Air Corp in 1946; after being honorably discharged he returned to Plains, KS to work at Collingwood Equipment. At a young age, Nelson had a love of racing, hunting, camping , water skiing, and other outdoor activities. Nelson also loved piloting his airplane. His passions have been passed down from generation to generation as his family carry on his traditions. Nelson was always ready for an adventure, never met a stranger, and lived life to the fullest; he will be greatly missed.
Nelson is survived by his loving wife of 73 years Phyllis, Son, Ace Gearhart and wife Twyla of Turpin, OK; Daughter, Diane Conaway and companion Delbert Kost of Turpin, OK; Grandson, Cody Gearhart and wife Ashley of Dwight, KS; Two Granddaughters, Angela Eichman and husband Ruben of Turpin, OK, Rachel Vangieson of Fort Collins, CO; Three Great Grandsons, Rayce Warden of Liberal, KS, Jace Alvarez and Hannah of Conroe, TX , Kannon Gearhart of Dwight, KS; Great Granddaughter, Azaelee Gearhart of Dwight, KS; Great Great Grandson, Rowdy Alvarez of Conroe, TX; Brother, Francis Gearhart of Lampasses, TX.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Three Brothers, Murle Gearhart, Carl Gearhart, and F.L. Gearhart; Sister, Aleen Hill.
A Celebration of Life will be announced at a later date.
