Natalie A. Perkins

Natalie Alice Perkins, 90, peacefully met her Lord and Savior face-to-face on Saturday, February 15, 2020 at Stevens County Hospital in Hugoton, Kansas. Pioneer Manor had been her residence just over 3 months. She was born in Carrollton, Georgia December 20, 1929, daughter of Albert and Flora (Gillihan) Lowman. She married Clyde Thomas Perkins September 13, 1947 at Lenexa, Kansas just 4 months after graduating from high school. He preceded her in death October 23, 2015. Natalie attended grade school in three towns in Kansas, as well as Richmond, Kentucky and York, Pennsylvania. She ultimately grew up living in Stanley, Kansas and graduated from Stanley High School. This was due to her father and grand-father both working for the pipeline. She held three professional State Board Licenses in her lifetime: Cosmetology; Kansas Abstracter; and, Kansas Title Insurance. Natalie followed Clyde just like her mama had followed her poppa, as Clyde was working on the pipeline by the time of their marriage. They lived in Kansas, Kentucky, Oklahoma, Missouri, Texas, Mississippi, Michigan, Wisconsin, Illinois, Indiana, Ohio and Tampico in old Mexico. Panhandle Eastern Pipeline Company finally moved them to Liberal in 1963 with the promise of a year's work where Clyde ultimately retired. Natalie claimed, "I think they forgot to transfer us!" Natalie owned the "Perk Inn" beauty shop in Stanley, Kansas prior to her move to Liberal. After several years in Liberal, she went to work (to "keep occupied" as she put it) in the Seward County Treasurer's Office handling the taxes and then managing the tag department. In 1972 she went to work for Etzold Abstract & Title Company, Inc., as manager and was there until she retired in 1989. Natalie loved life and most of all she loved her Lord, Jesus Christ! She enjoyed "junking" with Clyde and became an avid collector of antique dolls. She also loved to draw, china paint, sew, quilt, and listen to music. She was a member of The Red Hat club and enjoyed spending time with her friends. In her prime she made the best fried chicken, mashed potatoes and gravy with her heavenly home-made bread! She never turned down a cup of coffee, which her family loved sharing with her while eating her yummy homemade cobbler. Natalie was ever so proud of her grandkids and great-grandkids which would always bring a smile to her face. She was a big proponent of education, and liked supporting the SCCC Foundation scholarship fund with donations from their vast collection of antiques. Music was a big part of her past-time and she could have led a Willie Nelson Fan club all by herself. She was a member of the First Baptist Church, was a Sunday School Teacher for grade-school children and a member of the Friendly Sunday School class. She is survived by sons- Chris Perkins (wife Pam) of Liberal, KS, and Kirby Perkins (wife Barbara) of Ellis, KS; Grandson Sean Perkins, M.D. of Liberal, KS; Granddaughter Skye Clements (husband Shannon) of Grain Valley, MO; Great-Grandsons Alexander, Nicholas & Bennett Clements; Granddaughters Kerri Brisendine (husband Steve) of Mission, KS, and Kimberly Roberts (husband Ross) of Scott City, KS; and Great-Grandchildren Kristina and Benjamin Brisendine, & Caitlin Waala (husband Brian), and Spencer Roberts. She was preceded in death by her mother and father; and brother Galen "Butch" Lowman. Memorial Services will be held Saturday, February 29 ~ 2:00 p.m. at Miller Mortuary. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests that donations be made to the church of your choice or to the Seward County Community College Foundation. At Natalie's request, her body was donated to the University of Kansas Medical Center for the advancement of medical education and research science.
