Mertice "Floy"˜ Townsend Standard, 92, passed away on December 6, 2012 at the Desert Life Nursing Facility in Tucson, AZ. She was born to Charles Edman & Clara Tweet Harrison Townsend on May 31, 1920 in Llano, TX.˜ She graduated from school while she was living in Artesia, NM and then went to work in Artesia as a dental assistant.˜ She married Ben J. Standard of Loco Hills, NM on March 9, 1941.˜ He preceded her in death on March 6, 2000.˜ She was proud of her job as a telephone operator at the Army Air Base in Carlsbad, NM during World War II.˜ Floy and Ben moved to Lawrence in 1960, where she lived for most of her adult life.˜ Floy was the owner of the Swap Shop in Lawrence and was well known to generations of students at the University of Kansas.˜ She is remembered for her beautiful garden, her cooking skills and the joy she took from conversing with her children.˜ She was a long-time member of the Friends Church in Lawrence.˜ Floy volunteered for the 4-H, Job's Daughters and DeMolay in Lawrence. She is survived by two sons, Ben J. Standard, Jr. and wife Linda of Mead, KS; Greg Townsend Standard and wife Chris of Kismet, KS; three daughters, Zoe Deen Olson of Tucson, AZ; Karen Davis and husband, Joseph Topeka, KS; Pamela Anguiano of Paul's Valley, OK; one sister Jo Smith of Bowie, TX; seven grandchildren, several great-grandchildren.˜ She will be greatly missed. Funeral Services will be 2:00 P.M. Thursday at Miller Chapel with Pastor Keith Schadel presiding.˜ Interment will be in Liberal Cemetery. Friends may call at Miller Mortuary 10 A.M.- 7 P.M.
