Melvin Long

Melvin Lee Long, age 69, of Liberal, KS passed away Thursday November 3, 2016 at his home in Liberal. Born to on September 22, 1947 in Beaver, OK to John Long and Venita (Henry). Melvin graduated from Southwestern Heights in 1966 and attended Dodge City Technical School. He worked for Beech Aircraft of Liberal, KS for 5 years. He then went into the oilfield and began working with Tri-State casing company and eventually worked up to a crew operator for many years. In 2004 began working for Francis and Wyoming Casing casing in 2005 as a Field Manager. He retired in 2013. He married Diana Karpe on June 18, 1971 in Liberal Kansas, she survives Other Survivors include: Teresa Long - Daughter, Kansas City, MO Jason Long - Son, and his wife Christina Serna (Long), Liberal, KS Four grandchildren, Lynn Jamison, Marcus Jamison, Julie Long, and Cody Long, all of Liberal. Sister - Carolyn Long, Liberal, KS Brother - Donald Long, Beaver, OK He is also survived by several nieces, nephews, and several extended family members He was preceded in death by his parents, and brothers Delbert and Gerald Long. There will be no public visitation, as cremation has taken place. Memorial Service will be 10:00am Wednesday, November 16, 2016 at the Fellowship Baptist Church of Liberal, with Pastor Bill Prater presiding.
