Mary Alice Lewis was received by her lord and savior on March 25, 2013 at the age of 71.˜ She had bravely battled pancreatic cancer for months and succumbed to the disease while a patient at Wesley Medical Center in Wichita, KS. Mary was born on July 1, 1941 in Pratt, KS to Elvis Delbert Gibbons (1918-2007) and Anita Laverne Barton (1924-1942).˜ She was raised by her grandparents Oscar and Augusta Barton in Liberal, KS. Mary was blessed with a family of four children, and she overcame the difficulties of single parenthood by continuing her education.˜ She attended SCCC receiving her Associates degree.˜ She furthered her education at Wichita State University in Wichita, KS, completing her Bachelor's degree in 1973.˜ She earned her Master's degree in Speech Pathology graduating Summa Cum Laude in 1975. She and her family returned to Liberal, KS where she worked in the Liberal school system as a speech pathologist for over 30 years before retiring.˜ She continued with USD 480 as a consultant in the speech department until 2011. Since retirement, Mary enjoyed being active in the lives of her family, and she remained involved in the community, particularly by serving in the VFW Ladies Auxiliary and the Faith Tabernacle church. Mary is survived by two brothers, Elvis D. Gibbons, Jar. and his wife Linda of Liberal and Ron Gibbons and his wife Gail of Norco, CA and her four children, Ronald Dean Mosburg and his wife Burleene of Coweta, OK ; Cynthia Lynn Smid of Wichita, KS; Anita Kay Mosburg of Olathe, KS; and Sandra Deanne Galey and her husband Michael of Kansas City, KS.˜ She is also survived by nine grandchildren, Brandi Smid, Amber Hall, Ryann (Smid) McCain, Andrew Hall, Jordan Galey, Megan Galey, Madison Galey, Lauren Galey, and Kaylin Galey, and one great-grandson, Zayden McCain. Visitation will be held at Miller Mortuary on Friday, March 29th from 10 a.m.-7 p.m. Funeral services will be officiated by Reverend Rex Petty at the Faith Tabernacle church on Saturday, March 30th at 2 p.m. with graveside services immediately following at the Liberal Cemetery. A memorial fund has been established in Mary's honor at Bank of America with all donations divided between the American Heart Association, the American Cancer Society, and Liberal VFW.
