Mary Magdalene Brown, 83, formerly of Liberal, passed away on Friday August 14, 2020 at the Western Prairie Care Home in Ulysses, KS. She was born on May 29, 1937 to Benedict J. and Eleanor (Legleiter) Dreitz at Liberal, KS. She was united in marriage to Tommie Lee Brown on August 10, 1959. They were married for 23 years before his passing on January 29, 1983. Mary was a graduate of Liberal High School; class of 1955. Throughout her life she had worked at numerous places including Peoples National Bank, USD 480 Food Service, Elite Tour & Travel, and as an In-Home Caregiver. Mary enjoyed sewing, embroidering, making baby blankets for her family, and doing her own yard work; "can't" was not in her vocabulary. She was a member of St. Anthony's Catholic Church. Mary's most cherished and loving role was "Granny" to her seven grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren, Michelle Marie Krueger (Kasey), Lauren Lee Stevenson (Seth), Luke Kennedy Sumner, Ryan Anthony Brown (Morgan), Jett Thomas Brown, Christopher Thomas Denten (Yesenia), and Bradley LaRae Denten. She also treasured her great-grandchildren, Arrow Belle Krueger, Tommie Lee Stevenson, June Brown Stevenson, Jovi Penelope Brown, Hayes Maverick Krueger, Axel Lee Stevenson, Henry Lee Stevenson, Bronx Judge Brown, and Journi Thomas Brown. Mary is survived by three children- Pauline Sumner and husband Larry of Liberal, KS; Paul Mark Brown of Ardmore, OK; and Jacqueline Brown of Logan, UT; brother- Bennie D. Dreitz and wife Judy of Ft. Worth, TX; brother-in-law- Henry F. Brown and wife Anna of Enid, OK; Seven Grandchildren, Eight Great-Grandchildren, and numerous nieces & nephews. She was also preceded in death by her parents, sister- Virginia Mae Mertens, brother- Merle J. Dreitz, great-grandson- Bronx Judge Brown, and son-in-law-Randy L. Young. There will be no public viewing as cremation has taken place; a Register Book will be available at Miller Mortuary to sign. A Memorial Graveside Service will be held on Thursday, August 20, 2020, 1:00 pm at the Restlawn Memorial Gardens, Liberal, Kansas, with Fr. James P Dieker, officiating.
