Magdalene Ann (Cline) Brier, 81, passed away Friday, 7, 2021 at Pioneer Manor, Hugoton, Kansas.
Magdalene was born December 11, 1939 to Mildred (Smith) and Chester A. Cline, outside of Dalhart, Texas, the oldest of five children. She graduated from Hugoton High School in 1958.
Magdalene met her husband of 57 years, Herman E. (Eddie) Brier, Jr., in Liberal at the skating rink. After double dating with Magdalene’s sister, Wilma and her soon to be husband Dave Hearon, Eddie and Magdalene were married January 15, 1962 at Lone Star Friends Church in Woods, Kansas. Magdalene was a military wife while Eddie served 9 years in the U.S. Navy including Richmond, VA; San Francisco, CA (Treasure Island) and Honolulu, HI. Eddie preceded Magdalene in death on June 8, 2019.
In 1973, Magdalene and Eddie started a family while living in Casper, Wyoming. Soon thereafter they moved back to Liberal, and when the boys were old enough Magdalene joined the family business at Brier & Hale Music Co.; working there until 1995 when she retired for medical reasons. In retirement, Magdalene enjoyed visiting the Cline family farm playing games with her mother and her sister. She loved her art class, golfing, gardening, spoiling her grandchildren and traveling with Eddie. She was an associate member of Lone Star Friends Church and became a lifelong member of the First Christian Church, Liberal when she married Eddie.
Magdalene is survived by sons, Jonathan Brier of Phoenix, AZ, and James Brier and wife Jamie of Tyrone, OK; 6 grandchildren and 3 great-grandchildren; siblings, Wilma Hearon and husband David of rural Hugoton, KS, Dave Cline and his wife Joyce of Edmond, OK; Roger Cline of Liberal; Ramona Webb and her husband John of Cleveland, MO; and many in-laws, cousins, and nieces and nephews.
Magdalene was also preceded in death by her parents, two nephews. and brother-in-law Kenneth GroJean.
Viewing will be from 5:00 to 7:00 pm on Monday, May 10, 2021 at Miller Mortuary.
Funeral Services will be 1:00 p.m Tuesday, May 11th at Lone Star Friends Church with Reverend Gary Damron and Reverend James Tower officiating. Burial will follow at Liberal Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Seward County Council on Aging - Art Program, Lone Star Friends Church and First Christian Church of Liberal in care of Miller Mortuary PO Box 826, Liberal, Kansas 67905-0826
