Larry Lee Smith age 71, formally of Liberal, KS, passed away on April 26, 2023 in Sacramento, CA. Larry was born November 20, 1951 to James Sloan and Lola Smith in Liberal, KS.
Larry attended school in Liberal, KS, until joining the Job Corps. Throughout his life, Larry was a hard worker and dedicated family man. He spent many years working at Walmart in California, but it was his time as the Head Cook at the Liberal Inn and the Country Club in Salina, Kansas that brought him the most joy. Larry had a true talent for cooking and was a master at grilling. He was known for his culinary skills and ability to bring people together through food and conversation. He took great pride in his work and was always eager to share his knowledge and expertise with others.
In addition to his love of cooking, Larry enjoyed fishing and gardening. He was also an avid horror movie fan, always up for a good scare. Larry cherished time with his children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. He was a lifelong Christian who lived by his faith every day. Larry was a beloved member of the community, and his warm smile and generous spirit will be greatly missed by all who knew him.
Larry is survived by his loving wife, Mary Smith, his two sons, Marcus (Sandra) Smith of Atlanta, GA, and Timm (Lavita) Bright of CA; three daughters, Tammy Glenn (Kendrick Harris) of Milwaukee, WI, Taya Smith of Salina, KS, and Brandi Bright of Sacramento, CA; 14 grandchildren and 13 great grand-children; two brothers, Robert Love Jr.(Shirley) of Duncan, OK, and Charles Ricky Smith of CA; two Sisters, Vickie Love and Aleisa K Love, both of Liberal, KS; two Aunts, Alegra Adams of Liberal, KS and Donna Hopkins of Wichita, KS; Stepfather Eugene Morris of Liberal, KS; two Stepbrothers, Tyron Morris of Salina, KS, and Eugene Morris Jr. of Liberal, KS; cousin raised as as a sibling, Sue Bailey of Liberal, KS; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends. Larry was preceded in death by his parents, James Sloan and Lola Mae Morris, two brothers, Jerry Sloan, and Danny Love.
Larry's passing has left a void in the hearts of those who knew him. His memory will forever be cherished by his family and friends.
A Graveside Inurnment will be held on Monday, July 3, 2023 at 10:30am at the Restlawn Memorial Gardens Cemetery.
