John Lyndon Sheil died at home on October 14, 2018 in Tucson, Arizona. John was born February 21, 1926 on a farm near Delphis, Iowa. He was raised in Maloy, Iowa. Following high school, John enlisted in the Marine Corps serving in Japan during WWII. Upon returning from the war, he attended college in Maryville, Missouri where he met and married Martha Clymens, his wife of 67 years. For a short time after college, John taught at a school for the blind in St. Joseph, Missouri. He also owned Sheil Oil in Maloy, Iowa. His life long career was working as a chemist/engineer for Northern Natural Gas, living in Hobbs, New Mexico, Liberal, Kansas, and Spearman, Texas. After retiring in Liberal from Northern, John and Martha moved to Oklahoma City, Oklahoma, where they resided for over 30 years. John and Martha moved to Tucson, AZ in January 2017 to be near their daughters. While living in Liberal, John was an active member of St Anthony's Catholic Church. In the mid-eighties John and Martha moved to Oklahoma City, Oklahoma and they were active parishioners at Epiphany of the Lord Catholic Church for many years. John was an avid golfer, spending many hours on the golf course or practicing his shots. He also loved puzzles and Sudoku. John was a devoted husband, father and friend, loved by all who knew him. He will be greatly missed. John is preceded in death by his son, John Edward; parents, Edward and Marea Sheil; brothers Jim, Jerry, Bill, Mike and sister, Monica. Survivors include his wife, Martha; daughters Corinne Wilhoit and husband, Tom; Jane Sheil Butler and husband, Mark; grandchildren Ryan Wilhoit and wife, AJ; Lea Ann Brown; Chris Butler and wife, Heather; Erin Butler and Siobhan McDonald; great grandchildren Liv, Ever, Jacie, Whitney, Mackenzie, and many nieces and nephews. A rosary service was held Wednesday, October 24, 2018 in the chapel at St. Thomas the Apostle Catholic Church in Tucson. The Mass of Christian Burial was celebrated on Thursday, October 25 at St. Thomas the Apostle Catholic Church.
