Jerry McDaniel

Jerry Howard McDaniel, 78, of Liberal, Kansas died Thursday, January 11, 2024 in Liberal.

He was born June 6, 1945 in Enid, Oklahoma to Howard Alfred McDaniel and Stella May (Atterbery) McDaniel.

Jerry graduated from Liberal High School.  He attended Garden City Community College, Westminster College (Salt Lake City), and Emporia State University (Kansas State Teacher’s College) where he received a Bachelor Of Science degree in Biology.  He worked for Panhandle Eastern Pipeline Company for 27 years.  After retirement, he farmed near Liberal with his father-in-law, and later with his son.

Jerry enjoyed fishing, serving at church, working with the Boy Scouts, and spending time with family.  His children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren were his greatest joy.  He cared deeply for the natural environment and was a strong advocate of good stewardship of the natural world. Jerry never met a stranger and was a friend of many in the Liberal area.

Jerry was preceded in death by his parents, sister, Judy Bryan, and brother, Chris K. McDaniel.  He is survived by his sister, Marcia Brack of Tyrone, OK.  He is also survived by his wife of 58 years, Carol A. (White) McDaniel of the home; his four children, Christopher McDaniel (LaRae) of Wichita, Bryna Sandstrom (Erik) of Rio Rancho, NM, Luke McDaniel (Jamie) of Liberal, and Tadd McDaniel of Wichita, his twelve grandchildren (Rachel, Caitlin, Kara, Devon, Jackson, Allyson, Mason, Sean, Rylee, Liam, Morgan, and Carson) and three great grandchildren (Savannah, Magnolia, Bryce).

Viewing will be 5:00 pm - 7:00 pm Tuesday, January 16, 2024 with the family present to greet friends from 5:00 to 6:30 pm.

Funeral Services will be held on Wednesday, January 17, 2024 at 11:30 am at the Church Of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, 2180 Violet Lane, Liberal, Kansas. Burial will follow at the Liberal City Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers the family requests memorial donations to be made to the Nature Conservatory in Jerry's honor. (preserve.nature.org)
