Jerel Galen Spruell 71, passed away on March 22, 2025, after a lengthy illness.
Galen was born in Canadian, Texas to Glen Spruell and Ruby Baker. He attended Caprock High School and graduated in 1972. He was employed at Sav-A-Stop Warehouse as a forklift operator and receiving clerk from September 1972 to February 1985. He was also employed at Mead Containers from March 1985 to November of 1985. He was employed at Grainger from January 1986 and retired from there as a sales specialist in December 2017.
Galen met his wife Mary at Sav-A-Stop warehouse, and they were married on April 5, 1974. They are members of Paramount Baptist Church. Galen and Mary served many years on The Lord’s Supper Committee. They enjoyed many vacations at their “happy place” in Santa Fe, New Mexico. Galen took several courses in photography at Amarillo College and enjoyed shooting weddings and was the photographer for the Miss Amarillo Area Scholarship Pageant from 1997-2003.
He taught himself how to play the Native American Flutes which he loved dearly. He loved to go to Palo Duro Canyon and spend the day with his camera and flutes. He will definitely be missed by his family, friends, and all who knew him and whose lives he touched.
Galen is survived by his wife Mary Alice Spruell, brother Rob Spruell, and sisters, Glenda Fitzpatrick (Kris), and Trudy Reasoner;sister-in-law Kathy Johnson (Robert), and brother-in-law, Rodney Winkler (Jeri), nephews Randy Whipple, Andy Thompson, Sean Johnson and Scott Johnson, and nieces Kristi Miller, Jana Briones, Chloe Newell, Heather Watts, Amanda Martinez and Stephanie Canada.
He is preceded in death by his parents, Glen Spruell and Ruby Baker, and Mary’s parents, Herbert and Betty Winkler.
