Charles White

Charles Alfred "Charlie" White, 80, passed away on March 7th in Atlanta, Georgia.

Son of Lula and David, he was born December 14, 1943, in Liberal, Kansas.

Charlie was renowned star on the debate team, he graduated Kansas State Teacher’s College with
degrees in Teaching and History. Charlie worked in retail management most of his career, from K-Mart to Sports Giant to Target, and most recently the fishing department of Bass Pro Shops, where he truly enjoyed conversing with the customers. He moved to Atlanta to be closest to his eldest son and to live life on his own terms, sharing a house with his Basset Hound Mona. He loved the KU Jayhawks, and lived for March Madness. We do not doubt that he is somewhere complaining about KU’s season-ending loss to Gonzaga right now.

Charlie was a deeply beloved grandfather, father, uncle, cousin, brother, and friend. His passing was sudden and unexpected but quick, just like he always hoped it would be. While we lost our most beloved dad, many have lost a family member and friend and loved one in him. A character all the way up until the end, he was a master at sarcastic humor and witty timing, and never shied from a good debate, sometimes ending in an exaggerated eye roll. There was so much more to him than just dad, though to us that was his greatest role - he was also a grandpa, a friend, a debater, a professor, a coworker and colleague, a fisherman, an uncle, a brother, a painter, a landscaper, comedian, storyteller; the list goes on and on.

He is survived by his children: Greg White of Atlanta, GA; Mitch White of Indianapolis, IN and wife Jenifer; Matt White of Boston, MA, Vanessa Mather of San Diego, CA; Eight grandchildren: Devan Winslett, Chaia Stoker, Delaney White, Aneka White, Ashlan White, Kaylee White, Ian Mather, Ophelia Mather; Three Great grandchildren: Macy Stoker, Nelly Winslett, Truman Stoker; brothers Ron White of Dallas, TX and Leslie White of Spring, TX; sister Patricia England of Olpe, KS as well as many, many cousins, nieces, nephews, grandnieces, and grandnephews.

He was preceded to heaven by his parents, aunts and uncles, and his beloved sisters-in-law Carin White and Linda White.

A Celebration of Life will be held at 11:00am on Saturday April 13, 2024 at the Miller Mortuary Chapel in Liberal, Kansas. The family invites you all to share pictures or memories. It was his wish that we laugh, reminisce and smile together during this time.
